Jasper Foley’s latest performance is a captivating fusion of circus, clowning, and hauntingly beautiful live music by the talented ensemble Mazeriani (Bill Brennan-Jones, Matthew Clements, and Lucy Ridsale). The show weaves together humour, physicality, and an immersive soundscape to create something truly special.

From the outset, Foley proves to be a master of audience engagement. His ability to gauge and guide the crowd is evident in the ease with which he builds participation, ensuring that even the most hesitant attendees feel comfortable. The show thrives on interaction, but never at the expense of the audience’s enjoyment—a testament to Foley’s skill and sensitivity as a performer.

Visually, the production is just as compelling. Thoughtful lighting choices, particularly in the use of colour, contribute to a dynamic atmosphere that shifts seamlessly between playful and dramatic. The pacing is another strength; the show moves at a rhythm that is engaging without ever feeling rushed or meandering.

Foley’s Gaulier training is apparent in his precise physicality and instinct for surprise. Moments of shock—such as a precarious ladder act and the whimsical unpredictability of ‘Oogieboo’—highlight how much an audience can invest in even the most inanimate of objects. It’s a remarkable feat, turning the mundane into the magical.

The costuming strikes a perfect balance, walking the line between noticeable and delightfully absurd while never overwhelming the performance. It enhances the show’s charm without demanding undue attention, allowing Foley’s craft to shine.

This production is already an impressive feat of theatrical artistry, and it will be exciting to see how it evolves. With its unique blend of humour, skill, and heart, this show is not one to be missed.
